The entire cast is actually just one very, very talented (and also delusional) shapeshifter. This will all be revealed during sweeps in a few seasons when we need the ratings boost.
The shapeshifter may later turn out to be several super intelligent gerbils in a super advanced shapeshifter mech suit.
