Damn cliffhangers!!

Today is the very last day to contribute to the Kickstarter. As of now we are fully funded, but you’re still welcome to pledge if you’d like to get in on the goodness. Thanks so much to everyone who has already pledged. We’re super excited to get copies of the book out to everyone!

And here’s where we left off! HAZZAH! It’s finally up to that point!

  2. Ed8 August 20, 2014 2:19 am

So, is this where you left off last time before the reboot? That’s awfully cruel! That poor kid’s been in the hands of kidnappers for years now!

Congrats on the Kickstarter. It would seem a lot of Dax fans are procrastinators 🙂

I know, right?! Huge cliffhanger. We’ll be resolving it soon. Jess and I are hard at work to make sure we don’t keep everyone waiting too long.

Thanks! It would seem so! 😀

      • Gramy Pashakitty August 20, 2014 2:40 am

Not saying I want to wait that long again, but hey… we’ve waited this long to find out what happens next right?

        • Aaron August 20, 2014 2:45 am

Lol, I promise it won’t be near that long. Pretty sure it’ll be sometime in October, we’re just working out the exact date based on how much more we have to do with the chapter and how big it’ll be!

        • Jess August 20, 2014 2:19 pm

I’m happy to report that Chapter 5 is about 50% longer than any previous chapter with a 150% increase in writing and art quality. We are also approximately 25% completed with it. So … it’s like you’re getting 225% more comic … or something.

          • Aaron August 20, 2014 2:25 pm

As a guy who took some math in college I can confirm that these numbers check out okay.

          • Jess August 20, 2014 4:13 pm

            “some math”

          • Darth Litarius August 20, 2014 6:24 pm

Isn’t an increase in writing and art quality kind of subjective?

          • Aaron August 20, 2014 9:45 pm

Short answer, sure. Long answer, maybe.

From the writing perspective at least I think there is an improvement between 4 and 5. I changed my writing process between the two and I feel like 5 works better as a whole story. 4 still had some one off ideas like the comedy club strip that could have really fit anywhere. 5 is a lot tighter and has a ton more story. So from that perspective I’d expect an increase in quality.

Now 4 was done pre-relaunch and was touched up here and there this time around. So Jess has had a good long time to improve even more. So art go pretty fun times.

Hmmmm…I see. I notice how you guys waited until after the Kickstarter was over to reveal that the first 4 chapters were just “B” material, and you saved the “A” material for Chapter 5. That’s called “Marketing”! Excellent work! 😀

          • Aaron August 21, 2014 2:48 am

            More like A+ to A++ 😀

          • Jess August 21, 2014 4:01 pm

Just think at how amazing Volume 2 will be 😀

      • J.P. September 7, 2014 5:54 pm

        You killed Weasel! You Bastard!

        • Aaron September 7, 2014 11:52 pm

What about poor Biggun’? Just another hapless victim of the red shirt.

  3. Onasaki August 22, 2014 11:17 am

Basically guys, the previous chapters were old stuff they had. Because from what I understand, DAX originally wasn’t super serious. And like some not-super-serious comics, as time goes on they become their own person and eventually /become/ story. This process however, does not work for many comics. I have seen it.

    • Jess August 22, 2014 11:54 am

That’s a pretty good explaination. This happened with Dax and I’ve noticed it with Nightmaiden where the characters take over and we don’t so much write it as put in situations and they react to it. There are certain ways Dax will react to a situation where Scooter would be totally different. It’s been a lot of fun seeing them grow.

And no joke … working on this last page and the beginning of the next chapter … Aaron and I got a little choked up.
