This comic is the first time I’ve ever produced my finished art via PC (gray tones, lettering, touch-ups, etc) although my actual linework is still done with pen. And I must say I’m enjoying the flexibility this gives me, but my original art pages look sad and incomplete and no collector will ever want to buy them. 😉 Figured I’d mention that my decision to limit myself to two gray tones (one light, one dark) here is a homage to (or a result of the direct influence of):
Roy Crane and his work on the 40s newspaper strip Buz Sawyer. Crane did his Buz strips on DuoShade paper which had two levels of crosshatching built into it. And the form and atmosphere he was able to evoke from the use of only two grays (without devolving into fussy overkill) has always been awe-inspiring to me…
I love this last panel.
Thanks! 🙂
