Well Captain Slimebeard, it looks like you’re down a vessel for the time being. I am sure you and Dax can work this out. Bauto industries can set you up with a frigate for about 300K, destroyers will run you about 1M. That would get you back on your feet and ready to be a scourge of the galaxy again. Tell him I sent you and he’ll throw in a few thousand rounds of depleted uranium for your railguns.
I have consulted with Mr. Bauto. He thinks a merger could help with both businesses. Does Dax Inc. have any problems with providing security for arms shipments or delivering equipment and munitions to various security companies or navies? Some of the latest shipments are blank androids awaiting programming. These droids are primarily intended for maintenance, medical, and domestic use. They have capabilities to be remote operated should a team member become severely injured and stuck in sick bay. Long term remote operation is not advised since the android will self program and take on the personality of the person operating it.
The second hand ships are good as well, but you have to deal with quirks someone else already discovered and may have left a back door into your command computer. Do you really want to find out the hard way you have to kick a certain panel to get the bathroom door open or the pirate that had your vessel before now can shut down your engines or life support when you come into his territory? I am just saying you better make sure you do a thorough overhaul of your vessel should you go second hand.
That sounds like the same sort of problems one might encounter if one, say, for example, steals an enemy ship from the base of one’s enemy before blowing up said base. Are you suggesting that this might perhaps not be the ship Dax & crew want to use if they go up against Lord Arjnod at some later date? Is that the point where Sally’s eyes start glowing red and she starts quoting HAL from 2001? “I’m sorry, Dax, I’m afraid I can’t turn the life support back on.”
That sounds plausible, I think she may have some issues with Dimmer still being in the system. The Dimmer A.I. was intended for larger vessels such as the one Dax and crew are currently using. The current crew hasn’t seen all of the ship yet. As far as we know it could have kill bots and assassination droids still in their charging pods awaiting instructions. The ships machine shop could even have an entire production line set up to make an evil droid army if given enough materials.

Always thinking ahead you guys. Some of these things may be touched upon in chapter 8.

It all depends on whether your tech guy is better at finding the stuff than their tech guys were at hiding it. Now, of course Scooter is the best, no one is questioning that, but it’s not all about just the technical aspects – to ferret out all the diabolically hidden traps, viruses, subroutines, secret onboard killbot factories, and nanotech doomsday devices, you have to be able to think like an Evil Overlord. I’m not sure Scooter can think evil enough. Maybe if he had some sort of professional pirate to advise him he could manage it.

One does wonder when such traps go beyond worrysome for potential enemies to also a hazard for regular employees 😀

As an Evil Overlord, one has to expect to lose a certain percentage of minions to one’s own traps each year. It’s figured into the overhead budget as part of the cost of doing Evil business.

Evil Overlord ay? I see some assumptions going on 😉

If your ship is filled with deathtraps, killbot factories, doomsday devices, and assassination droids, you just might be an Evil Overlord!
But there’s a big sign on it that says “NOT an evil droid factory”? You should always trust the signs, they’re placed there for your safety and protection!
Kind of like those irresistible “Do not push” buttons.

Somewhere out there there is a ship with an entire console covered in do not push buttons.

Sounds like an evil ship whose name may translate to “Two Thousand Ways to Die.” It may have hidden cameras on it so you can watch the victim meet his demise from multiple angles. It’s an Evil Overlords entertainment vessel.

Hmm, wonder if Bauto Industries would consider a merger with Dax Inc. All that hardware with all this skill…

If this goes on much longer, I really am going to have to write Bauto in 😀
that’s outrageous! Why I can pick up a second hand destroyer for a half mill and strap some guns on it myself with sash to spare!
I like that frugal mindset!

Guys, guys!! We’ve got a celebrity!
The question is, when dealing with a resident AI in a ship, is it a software swap, a lobotomy, an eviction, or an exorcism?
To be honest with you, I’d think it to be a combination of all four of those things.
So call the Vatican and see if they have a priest/hacker with a medical degree who is also a licensed process server in your jurisdiction?
There’s two! One of them has a big head though because they did a TV special on him.
Chapter 8? But that’s so far off!! How am I going to remember to say “I told you so!”?
Chapter 7 has a different focus. Lots to do. Going to be another long one too!
The evil droid factory is probably labeled as a secondary waste processing plant or some other boring mundane thing.
Or a secret door!
But there’s a big sign on it that says “NOT an evil droid factory”? You should always trust the signs, they’re placed there for your safety and protection!
You know it!

Sounds like some quality entertainment to me!
